4 Tips for Effective Medical Advocacy

Most of us know (maybe even just anecdotally) that our healthcare system is strained at the moment. As North America’s population continues to age, that strain is only getting worse.

By next year, there will be a greater percentage of people over the age of 65 than at any other time in the history of the world! No matter how old you are today, this reality WILL affect your ability to access quality healthcare in your future.

What this means is that we will all need to take greater responsibility for our own health needs in the future. It means that we are going to have to become empowered healthcare consumers (yes, we are indeed consuming healthcare, even if we live somewhere that we don’t usually pay out of pocket to access it).

This guide will introduce to the concept of medical advocacy. Remember advocate has two pronunciations: you can advocate for yourself, and you can have an advocate to help you get your voice heard. To get the care we may one day need, we’ll need both!
